Yellowstone Springs Ranch

Sold: 2015 Yellowstone Springs Ranch Emigrant, MT

Details & Features

Yellowstone Springs Ranch is a 1,224-acre ranch on the Yellowstone River located in the heart of the Paradise Valley. The charming town of Emigrant, Montana, with its restaurants, coffee shops, bars and fly shops is situated less than 5 minutes from the ranch. Additionally, minutes away is the historic Chico Hot Springs Resort & Day Spa, offering convenient proximity to fine dining, live entertainment, outdoor adventure and spa facilities. Yellowstone National Park and Livingston, Montana, are each approximately 30 minutes away (in opposite directions). Commercial air service is available in Bozeman, approximately one hour away, and private jet service is available in Livingston.

The landscape stretches from a dense, heavily wooded river bottom up to a stunning bench with commanding views of the river and surrounding mountains. Yellowstone Springs is one of the largest ranches in the valley with a mile of river and significant uplands, both of which are topographically laid out to make the ranch feel extremely private. The river portion of the ranch rests within a lush, sheltered riparian zone featuring groves of cottonwoods, springs, a spring-fed pond, wetlands, small braids of the river and one mile of the main stem of the Yellowstone River. The upland portion of the ranch has a large, irrigated organic hay and grazing component, as well as a beautiful spring-fed pond and many rolling hills providing the rare combination of privacy and amazing views.

Abundant populations of ducks, geese, mule deer and white-tailed deer reside on the ranch. More interestingly, a seasonal herd of elk winters on the ranch and several trumpeter swans call the ranch home. With over a mile of one of the best trout fishing stretches on the Yellowstone River and two spring-fed trout ponds, the ranch is an angler’s paradise.

The Yellowstone Springs Ranch is one of the last, large ranches remaining in the valley. The ranch’s pastures have been certified as organic for both hay production and livestock grazing. Currently, 120 acres are under pivot irrigation with 92 acres planted in alfalfa. There are 40 acres of grass hay that are under wheel and hand line irrigation. The current owners have a small herd of bison and organically certified cattle on the ranch. The current ownership has been contracting with a lessee to manage the hay production. All agricultural activities have been done in a manner to maximize the wildlife usage of the property.

Fishing, hunting, birding, hiking, horseback riding and biking can be done on the ranch. The surrounding area offers many more activities including tours of Yellowstone National Park, zip-lining and rafting. The handmade, four-bedroom log cabin provides a wonderful home base to prepare for the activity-filled days. The cabin overlooks a trout-filled pond, and the front window frames the 10,921-foot Emigrant Peak. Guests will awe in the views across the winding river, ponds and wetlands off the back porch and may never want to leave the cabin.

Paradise Valley is known around the world as one of the most beautifully dramatic and most photographed valleys in the Northern Rockies. Its basin extends from the Yellowstone gateway community of Gardiner at the south end to historic Livingston, Montana, on the north end. Providing a backdrop of snow-capped peaks, Paradise Valley follows the meandering waters of the Yellowstone River, featuring stunning ranchlands, flowing rivers, world-famous spring creeks, and abundant wildlife all within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
