Sundowner Meadows
Details & Features
West of the Bitterroot River, at the end of Bear Creek Road, tucked back into the base of the Bitterroot Mountains, you’ll find a beautiful meadow with a remarkable lodge built from hand-hewn timbers that are older than the territory of Montana. The lodge is positioned on 60-acres with spectacular views across a meadow and into the Bitterroot Mountains. It would be difficult to find a more picturesque Montana ranch for sale than Sundowner Meadows.
This stunning Montana lodge was built using hand-hewn timbers collected from a barn built in 1840, in Clinton County, Indiana, on Cripe Creek. The logs were harvested from a forest just a few feet away, many of these timbers were 60 feet in length. The logs were disassembled and shipped to Montana, where Yellowstone Traditions, a premier builder out of Bozeman, created the magnificent lodge on 60 acres. Only by seeing it in person can one truly grasp the astonishing artisan labor that went into creating this structure. From cutting down the trees, to hand hewing the logs, to disassembling the barn, to shipping the logs to Montana and reconstructing them into a lodge with 21st-century amenities, the Sundowner Lodge is a piece of history and a work of art.
Sundowner Meadows was once a horse property and much of the infrastructure is still in place to be easily transitioned back into an equestrian property. Over 40 acres of meadow and grassland present an opportunity for hay production. There is a beautiful pond just outside the home and the property enjoys water rights from the Fred Burr Creek that date back to 1890, for both stock and irrigation. One of Montana’s best dry fly fisheries, the Bitterroot River, is roughly 3 miles down the road.
