Stone Creek Ranch on the Salt
Details & Features
Overview: Stone Creek Ranch on the Salt boasts the best of the best that Rocky Mountain Western ranches have to offer. There are 3 separate trout-filled bodies of water, including ¾ mile on both sides of the Salt River and over half of a mile of national forest boundary on the ranch’s 127 acres. The ranch is located in the highly sought-after Star Valley region of Wyoming and 11 miles south of the charming western town of Afton. The quintessential western log cabins on the ranch have been meticulously maintained and the family lodge provides the perfect gathering place after a long day of activities. In addition to the family compound structures, the ranch has a horse barn and hay shed, along with an additional residence that could serve as another guesthouse or as a caretaker’s home. The ranch is located at the mouth of Gomm Creek as it leaves the stunning alpine setting of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest directly adjacent to the ranch. Hiking and equestrian trailheads lead directly from the ranch into the seemingly endless miles of trail systems within the national forest. For the trophy big game hunter, Star Valley’s public lands are known for quality mule deer and elk hunting. With its diverse landscape, an abundance of live water, forest boundary and turn-key improvements and the resort town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming, at one hour and twenty minutes away, the Stone Creek Ranch is a first-class offering.
Acreage: Stone Creek Ranch acreage is as diverse as Wyoming’s varied landscapes. The ranch is comprised of 127 deeded acres of mixed terrain. It ranges from base elevation lush green pastures, willow-lined Salt River frontage and open meadows, which transition to steep dense timbered hillsides that reach the ranch’s national forest boundary. One of the ranch’s focal points is the healthy willow-lined Salt River.
Improvements: The improvements on Stone Creek Ranch lend themselves ideally for a family compound or corporate retreat. There are three log cabins, a log lodge and an additional guest home or caretaker’s residence. Situated at the mouth of the Gomm Creek drainage, the improvements are nestled in a stunning alpine setting adjacent to national forest. This location provides privacy in addition to elevated vistas overlooking the ranch and river corridor, along with unobstructed views up and down the lush green valley.
Live Water: Stone Creek Ranch is located at the headwaters of the Salt River as it begins its journey north from the Salt River Mountain Range south of the town of Smoot. This river stretch, although much smaller in comparison to the main river closer to Alpine, provides more privacy and less public pressure. Primarily a cutthroat fishery, a good number of fish reside in this stretch in smaller lengths with an occasional fish in the 22-inch range. Overall, the Salt River is a classic meadow fishery that flows through the center of Star Valley for approximately 50 miles.
