The Jackson Hole Airport is a 45-minute drive and offers commercial airline service to the valley through Delta, United, Northwest, Frontier and American Airlines. Direct flights include those from Denver, Salt Lake City, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Atlanta, Minneapolis and Los Angeles.
Comprised of 35 acres of variable terrain, the River Bend Refuge features sweeping pasture, rolling sagebrush and heavily-treed river bottom. Incredible views of the Hoback River, Wyoming Range and Hoback Canyon provide picturesque 360-degree panoramas. The ranch is easily accessed year round from Highway 191 with Hoback Junction only 5 minutes up the road for convenient local fruit, vegetables and groceries as well as fuel. National Forest lands are easily accessed from the River Bend Refuge, with 2 trailheads within 5 minutes of the property offering direct access to miles of public trails. The Hoback River makes up the entire southern border of the property providing a ½ mile of excellent private fishing.
This 5,600 sqft custom log home was designed and built by the current owners with attention to every detail. Perfectly situated, the ranch provides 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains, horse pastures and river. A floor-to-ceiling river rock fireplace warms up the great room. The spacious gourmet kitchen with high-end appliances opens up directly to the family room and dining areas, making it ideal for entertaining and large gatherings. The configuration of the home features one wing dedicated to a huge master suite and bath with direct access to a private workout room, office and private patio. The other wing is dedicated to two large suites, and both bedrooms have a private bath and deck.
Forming the entire southern border of the property, the Hoback River is named after John Hoback, the lead explorer with the Astor expedition of 1810-1820. With its headwaters high in the Wyoming Range, the river travels for 55 miles before flowing into the Snake River. The Hoback joins the River Bend Refuge as it exits the dramatic Hoback Canyon. Here at the ranch, the river slows to offer anglers excellent wade fishing. Typically, the spring runoff starts to lessen toward the end of June during the end of the salmon fly hatch, resulting in tremendous fishing.
Roughly 20 acres of the property is fenced and cross-fenced for horse pastures. The ranch enjoys excellent water rights from the Hoback River providing irrigation to the entire area. All irrigation pumps and equipment come with the sale and are in excellent condition. There are 3 water wells on the property servicing the main home, guesthouse, caretaker’s home and the extensively-landscaped grounds. The zoning is rural and is regulated according to Teton County Planning and Zoning regulations.
Many are drawn to this area for the sporting lifestyle and adventures that are plentiful in every direction. Recreational opportunities abound yearlong with horseback riding, hunting, floating, hiking, photography, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. For those who enjoy floating, the Snake and Green Rivers are only a short drive. The River Bend Refuge is an ideal launch or take-out site for endless adventures on the Hoback River. Nearby Granite Hot Springs is a super place to unwind after a day of fly fishing, kayaking or hiking.
Nestled within a breathtaking expanse of national forest and majestic mountains and on a ½ mile stretch of the Hoback River, the River Bend Refuge is a unique property that truly has it all. With acres of fenced pasture and endless miles of trails the ranch is ideal for the equestrian enthusiast.
