Lord Ranch on Trout Creek

Sold: 2014 Lord Ranch on Trout Creek Philipsburg, MT

Details & Features

Located on the scenic byway, Skalkaho Highway, 10 minutes south of the charming mountain town of Philipsburg is the Lord Ranch on Trout Creek.  The ranch borders the Deerlodge National Forest and is in the foothills of the Anaconda Mountain Range. Georgetown Lake lies less than a mile east.

The 2,691-acre Lord Ranch is an ideal mix of creek bottom, rolling grass land, sloping pivot-irrigated hay fields and timbered ridges. The ranch shares a border with public land owned by the US Forest Service and the state of Montana.

Ranch improvements include five modern center pivot irrigation systems, two basic homes and assorted barns, sheds and outbuildings. The two homes are currently occupied by renters.  An incoming owner may want to continue renting the homes or remodel and upgrade the improvements for guests and family to enjoy.

When autumn arrives, Montana prepares for hunting. Philipsburg is known for its wide array of big game. One of the most sought-after hunts the world over is that of the Bighorn sheep. Nearby Rock Creek is home to many of these spectacular animals. Licenses are available by lottery. In addition to the Bighorn Sheep, the Philipsburg area offers elk, deer, moose, mountain goats and grouse hunting. Along with the varied terrain and habitat comes an incredible diversity of wildlife. Many species of big game animals can be found on the ranch and the surrounding national forest. An incoming owner can expect excellent big game hunting opportunities for elk, Mule deer and Whitetail deer, Black bear, mountain lion and Pronghorn antelope. The ranch is outfitted commercially for deer and elk and generates income for each harvested animal.  This area and the ranch specifically offer great potential for trophy quality elk and Whitetail deer.

Trout Creek originates on the upper end of the ranch and flows through the property for approximately 1 ½ miles.  Basic stream enhancement work has improved the creek, and it fishes very well, with brown trout being the most prolific. Rainbow, cutthroat and brook trout can also be caught.  Trout Creek is an ideal size for wade fishing with lots of casting room.  The creek flows through lush irrigated meadows with stunning views of the Pintler Wilderness.  Granite County has some of the finest skiing and snowmobiling in Montana. Discovery Ski Area has something to offer for skiers of any level. One of the fastest growing ski areas in Montana, Discovery has over forty runs ranging in level from easy beginner slopes to double black diamond expert terrain.

The Lord Ranch on Trout Creek enjoys exceptional trout fishing and elk, deer and bird hunting with access to national forest and close proximity to recreation. These 2,691 acres are an idyllic mix of pivot-irrigated hay fields, brush-lined creek, riparian zone, rolling grass and timbered mountainside. Nearby recreational opportunities abound with winter actives at Discovery Ski Area and summer pursuits at Georgetown Lake.
