Kelly Toponce Ranch
Details & Features
Kelly Toponce Ranch is located in the small farming community of Bancroft, ID, which is approximately 25 miles northwest of Soda Springs, ID. Soda Springs is the hub of the Bear Lake Caribou Scenic Byway and the Pioneer Historical Byway in southeast Idaho.
Within an hour ½ drive, the rapidly growing city of Pocatello provides all major services including commercial air service, golf courses, movie theaters and fine dining and is home to Idaho State University. Nearby skiing is available at the Pebble Creek Ski Area, located a few miles south of Pocatello. World-class skiing is available in both Salt Lake City, UT and the resort community of Jackson Hole, WY, each 2½ hours from Kelly Toponce Ranch. Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks are within driving distance, allowing you to make a day’s visit exploring world-renowned wildlife and scenery.
Kelly Toponce Ranch consists of 632 acres positioned at the mouth of a canyon and offers hay meadow, sage hillsides, aspen draws and a willow-lined creek bottom. There is a year-round spring which originates in a south facing aspen grove that would make an ideal homesite. The ranch is also fortunate to border public land on three sides, making it feel much larger than it is, enabling the ranch owner an opportunity to recreate on Caribou National Forest and BLM lands out the back door.
Toponce Creek bisects the property and provides a small stream fishery for rainbows, browns and brook trout. The upper half-mile of the ranch and the adjacent national forest provide the best fishing due to excellent water flows. The state of Idaho stocks fish on the adjacent forest land. It is not uncommon to find 16-18 inch brown trout which have migrated up from Chesterfield Reservoir into Toponce Creek. Kelly Toponce Ranch is ideally positioned to take advantage of excellent surrounding fisheries. Both Blackfoot and Portneuf Rivers are within a one hour drive and provide hotspots for great trout fishing. Other outstanding fisheries which are available for day trips would include the Salt River, Green River, South Fork of the Snake River, mainstem and tributaries of the Snake River, and Bear River, as well as a variety of small streams and creeks.
Kelly Toponce Ranch improvements include a main house, caretaker’s cabin, bunkhouse and two additional guest cabins. The main home is two bedrooms and two baths while the caretaker cabin is two bedroom, one bath. The bunkhouse and adjacent two guest cabins are each one bedroom and currently rented to guests who take trail rides in the adjacent forest or big game hunt in the fall. This space has also functioned as an ideal family retreat in the past.
Equestrian improvements include a larger barn, complete with stalls, tack room and foaling area. The property is fenced with both pole fencing and electric grade fencing and is presently operated as a thoroughbred lay up center, catering to the rehabilitation and realization of prized racehorses and breeding prospects.
This sporting ranch is adjacent to national forest and BLM property, which harbor deer, elk and moose year round. Both deer and elk are particularly abundant on the ranch in winter and also migrate to the adjacent public lands as a refuge during hunting season. Grouse and a variety of small game can also be found on and adjacent to the ranch. Some of the finest duck and goose hunting in Idaho can be found 45 miles away on Blackfoot Reservoir.
The opportunity to own a ranch bordered on three sides by public lands in such a pristine part of the west is becoming increasingly hard to find. Kelly Toponce Ranch has the potential to suit both the recreational buyer and horse enthusiasts alike. Kelly Toponce Ranch is for the buyers who demand privacy and recreation out their back door.
