Consisting of 108 acres, the property boasts ¾ mile of Darlington Spring Creek, a fishery known to hold gigantic trout. This classic spring creek contains the water quality and wildlife habitat anglers dream about. Improvements include a well-built 4,060 sqft farm-style home, constructed in 2004 with 4 bedrooms, 3 baths and a 3-car garage. The property is bordered on the west by over 800 acres of state land providing direct access to the Madison River and Darlington Ditch, both excellent trout fisheries. This section of the Madison River is famous for its braids, channels and low angling pressure. The Darlington Ditch runs along the western boundary of the property and undergone habitat restoration projects sponsored by Trout Unlimited. The area is well known as a major waterfowl flyway with rich river bottom. Wildlife includes pheasant, Hungarian partridge, geese, ducks and Whitetail deer. Location, recreation, outstanding fishing and the spring creek habitat make Darlington Spring Creek Ranch a rare opportunity in all of Gallatin County.
The Darlington Spring Creek Ranch is highlighted by outstanding trophy trout fishing, stunning views and abundant wildlife. The 108+/- acres average about 4,200 feet in elevation and are generally flat to gently rolling native grass with intermittent trees. Darlington Spring Creek winds its way across the middle of the property. The lower Madison River and Darlington Ditch Creek are on State of Montana land that borders the property to the west. This gives an incoming owner access to three great, yet very different fisheries from this one parcel. The Darlington Spring Creek Ranch would make a great horse property or small cattle operation.
A four bedroom, three bathroom, modern farm-style home, is the centerpiece of the property. Built in 2004, the home is two-story and 4,160 sqft. Enjoy the views from the large windows and covered wrap-around porch. The main floor has an open floor plan that is ideal for entertaining or relaxing, a formal dining room, custom kitchen, comfortable living room and gas fireplace. An attached three-car garage is convenient and allows room for storage.
The Darlington Spring Creek Ranch offers great opportunities to hunt pheasants, Hungarian partridge, ducks and geese. This part of the lower Madison Valley is well known as a major flyway for waterfowl because of the springs and creeks that stay ice-free year around.
Drive almost any direction from the property and upland bird hunters will find opportunities to chase pheasants, Hungarian partridge, Sharptail grouse, as well as Blue and Rough grouse in the area mountains.
Some locals and just a few outsiders know the secret that Darlington Spring Creek is home to truly gigantic trout! Do not let the size of the creek fool you, Darlington has the water quality, habitat potential and genetics that anglers dream about. Dry fly fishermen can expect baetis, PMDs, Tricos, caddis and midge hatches, and the hopper and beetle fishing in the summer can be amazing. When not on dry flies, anglers will have luck with small nymphs like a pheasantail, midge larva and scuds. Don’t forget to swing a bugger or zonker through deeper holes and undercut banks.
Darlington Ditch running along the western boundary of the property is a public spring creek fishery and is walk-in only from the Cobble Stone fishing access. Cobble Stone sees little fishing traffic because there is no boat ramp or camping. In 1972 and then again 1988 Trout Unlimited sponsored trout habitat restoration projects on this section of Darlington Ditch, which has become a superb technical fishery holding exceptionally large trout. Darlington experiences all of the classic spring creek hatches and will challenge even the most experienced anglers.
