History: E.R. Pooley graduated from Harvard and ventured west to Hood River to start an orchard in 1909. In a short period of time, he built one of the largest fruit packing and cold storage facilities in Oregon, was responsible for converting the valley to pears from apples, helped to found the Oregon-Washington-California Pear Bureau, and eventually merged the Pooley Fruit Company with the famed Duckwall Fruit Company in 1970. E.R. Pooley commissioned the help of famed Portland architect, Jamieson Parker (1895-1939) to build this Hood River masterpiece and who was responsible for such famous Portland houses and structures as the First Unitarian Church, the Flanders House, the Greenwood House, the Haseltine House, and the Kingsley House, all on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
