Stone Forest Farm

Sold: 2014 Stone Forest Farm Tillamook, OR

Details & Features

Stone Forest Farm is nestled in the Trask River Valley just 15 minutes southeast of Tillamook and some of the most amazing beaches and vistas on the Oregon Coast. Stone Forest Farm is only a short 1.5 hour drive from Portland. In addition, the Port of Tillamook Bay Airport is 12 miles from Stone Forest Farm. The Tillamook Bay Airport is a full-service airport that provides a 5,000-foot asphalt runway, fueling facility, private hangars for rent or long-term lease, and runway and approach lights. The airport accommodates private jets, cargo planes and military aircraft.

The Main House — The main house at Stone Forest Farm is a custom 2,467 sqft, three-bedroom, two-level home along the banks of the Trask River that was constructed in 2006. The house has an open floor plan and features maple flooring, custom alder cabinetry and trim, an open kitchen, granite counters, gas appliances, a sitting area with windows overlooking the river, one master bedroom with full bath and an additional ½ bath off the entry hallway. The downstairs contains a daylight basement with two bedrooms, a full bath, woodstove, entertainment room and access to the garage and shop/storage room. The house was constructed using 12-inch thick insulating concrete forms, which provides superior stability, quietness and energy efficiency. It has a large patio balcony overlooking the river that is perfect for relaxing or entertaining large groups. Underneath the balcony is a two-car garage and shop/storage room.

The surrounding property is well-manicured and comprised of professionally planted mature landscaping. Water has been plumbed throughout the landscaping to assist with irrigation in the summer months. In addition, a large 500 sqft deck was constructed over the river where one can watch salmon swimming up through the riffles or simply spend a relaxing time by the river. Surrounding the three manicured acres is an electrified high fence to protect the landscaping from browsing elk and deer that travel through the property regularly.

Greenhouse and Storage Shed — Adjacent to the house is a large, quality-constructed 1,500 sqft greenhouse constructed in 2007 where plants are started, wintered, and/or propagated for the nursery business. Also constructed in 2007, a 432 sqft storage shed is used for farm equipment and storage.

Stone Forest Farm is located in the heart of salmon and steelhead country. While the Trask River alone can provide the serious angler with years of entertainment due to the multiple runs throughout the year on the property, there are many classic steelhead and salmon rivers within a short drive of the Farm, not to mention the endless opportunities fishing for halibut, rockfish, lingcod, tuna and salmon in the Pacific Ocean.

Trask River — Rumored to be the featured river in David James Duncan’s acclaimed novel, The River Why, the Trask River originates in the Oregon Coast Range and travels 48 miles to the Tillamook Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The river plays host to substantial and healthy wild and hatchery runs of Fall Chinook (first rains in October through November), Coho (September through November) and Spring Chinook (April through June) salmon. Fall Chinook range up to 40 pounds, Spring Chinook average around 15 pounds and Coho average from 10 to 15 pounds. The Winter Steelhead run begins in December and lasts through March, while Summer Steelhead enter the river in July and last through October. These fish average from 5 to 15 pounds. Finally, the property is host to a sustained population of Sea-run cutthroat trout, which can grow to over 20 inches and can be aggressive. The cutthroat follow the salmon and steelhead into the rivers to feed on eggs and can be caught just behind their bigger cousins.

Stone Forest Farm represents a unique opportunity to purchase a pristine salmon and steelhead fishery in the Lower 48, in close proximity to Oregon’s metropolitan areas. Large properties on coastal salmon and steelhead streams, away from a major highway, are rare in the Pacific Northwest. With its close proximity to Portland, the restaurants and amenities of Tillamook, and the many recreational activities and beaches within a short drive, Stone Forest Farm represents the ideal property for family, friends and business associates.
