Yellowstone Bend Ranch is a 3,600-acre conservation cattle ranch in the heart of south-central Montana. Twenty-two family retreats with sizes ranging from 20 to 38 acres are nestled into rolling hills with views of the surrounding Crazy, Absaroka, and Beartooth Mountains. Ownership includes an undivided interest in 3,100 acres of protected land and a mile and a half of private Yellowstone River frontage reserved for wildlife, ranching and outstanding recreation.
Since 1917, the heart of Yellowstone Bend Ranch has been the historic house and barn. Restoration has been completed with plans by award-winning architects Fernau and Hartman. The renovated house offers five comfortable guestrooms for homeowner’s use, featuring a wraparound porch with barbeque facilities and room for lounging or entertaining. Each homeowner will enjoy rights to the guestrooms for at least two weeks per year for themselves or visiting guests.
The barn, which overlooks the trout pond and swimming dock, houses the children’s discovery center, a small fitness center, basketball court and the general store.
The Yellowstone Bend Ranch boasts a mile and a half of blue-ribbon Yellowstone River frontage. This prime stretch of river provides excellent drift boat fishing and wading opportunities for native Yellowstone cutthroat, brown and rainbow trout. Up-and-down river boat launches allow for floats from one end of the ranch to the other. A cold water trout pond is also found on the property, just steps from the historic homestead, and is a great place to practice your roll cast, drop a line with the kids or take an afternoon dip.
Yellowstone Bend Ranch, Inc. is part of a greater mission to protect lands of the Rocky Mountain West by adding ecological and recreational value to large privately-held properties. Often referred to as “conservation development”, the planning process for the ranch increases open space by localizing homesites to a designated area. Homesites are strategically placed on comfortable 25+ acre lots surrounding the original 1915 homestead, and over 85% of the ranch will be permanently preserved through a conservation easement held by the Montana Land Reliance. There is a balanced use of the land with wildlife habitat, ranching, recreation and low-impact residences.
The Yellowstone Bend Ranch currently supports healthy populations of Hungarian partridge and Sharptail grouse, and will soon be ready for pheasant.
The Yellowstone Bend Ranch offers an assortment of activities enabling all ages to experience the simple, enduring joys of Montana’s natural world. Activities include fly fishing the one and a half miles of private Yellowstone River frontage, wildlife viewing, hiking or biking over 10 miles of single-track trails, a private sporting clay course, equestrian riding on eight miles of dirt ranch roads, having a barbecue with the family on the edge of the Yellowstone under the pavilion and warming up in a rustic hunting and shooting cabin after a fall day of upland bird hunting for Hungarian partridge, Sharptail grouse and pheasant.
