The Neely Ranch is located 17 miles northwest of Daniel Junction in Sublette County, Wyoming. The county seat of Pinedale is approximately 30 miles to the east and Jackson Hole, Wyoming is just over an hour north. The property is accessed from State Highway 189/191 via County Highway 354, which is paved for the first eleven miles then turns to a county maintained gravel road for the remaining approach.
Pinedale is traditionally known as a ranching community with large livestock operations dominating its rugged landscape of sage-filled ridges and lush grassy valleys. Three mountain ranges encapsulate this valley: the Wyoming Range, creating the western border; the Gros Ventre Range to the north; and the Wind River Mountain Range to the northeast. Elevations range from 6,500 feet to nearly 13,805 at Gannett Peak in the Wind River Mountain Range. Recreational opportunities abound in this area with incredible access to public lands and numerous river systems winding through the valley floor.
This spectacular high alpine ranch is comprised of approximately 1,026 deeded acres of rolling, south-facing sage-covered hillsides, numerous pockets of aspen and conifer trees, and thick willow-lined draws. The ranch is bordered by more than a mile and half of National Forest on its northern boundary. The Forest offers direct access to thousands of acres of public lands and also invites the region’s wildlife. Chall Creek and Little Beaver Creek converge on The Neely Ranch, offering good fishing possibilities for nearly two miles. This lush creek bottom also provides wetlands habitat for waterfowl, moose and other game. Excellent views of the Wind River, Wyoming and Gros Ventre Ranges add to the beauty of this western Wyoming ranch.
There is a small cabin of approximately 875 square feet located on the property. A modest set of cattle handling facilities and miscellaneous outbuildings highlight the ranch as a historic cow camp in the Beaver Creek Valley. Power and phone have also recently been brought to the property.
Due to the eco-sensitive nature of the Neely Ranch with large open spaces, access to National Forest and proximity to Sublette County’s sprawling development, this property could provide substantial tax benefits to an incoming owner who places a conservation easement on the property. The Green River Valley Land Trust is a very active and growing local organization that would likely be the recipient of an easement on the ranch.
Other close fisheries, such as the Green River and the New Fork River, offer the accomplished angler ample opportunities at designated public access points. These rivers are similar in nature and are noted for their long, smooth dry fly runs, gravel riffles and deep streamer pools which house the larger predatory brown trout. The first week of July generally begins the dry fly season on the Green and New Fork Rivers with excellent hatches of large grey drakes and a plethora of caddis variations.
The Neely Ranch is a wildlife sanctuary directly adjoining National Forest. The ranch is home to deer, antelope, moose, elk, black bear, mountain lion, and wolf. Sandhill cranes, upland game birds and numerous waterfowl species frequent the ranch to feed in the nearby meadows and creek bottoms. The outdoor enthusiast has direct access to literally hundreds of thousands of acres of National Forest lands out the backdoor with hiking and riding trails available year round.
