Established in 1933, Crystal Creek Outfitters is one of the oldest continuously operating outfitting businesses in the Jackson Hole area. By operating three camps in the 317,874-acre Gros Ventre Wilderness, this constitutes the largest area assigned to a single outfitter in the region. These camps can be set up in May and used through the end of fall.
Crystal Creek Outfitters is permitted by the National Forest to operate three camps - Base Camp, Crystal Creek Camp and Jagg Creek Camp. The Base Camp sits along the Gros Ventre River, approximately 30 miles from Jackson Hole and is accessible by highway. The historic Wort/Puchi cabin is onsite at the Base Camp. Crystal Creek Camp rests at the base of Crystal Peak in an alpine meadow, which provides plenty of grazing in both the summer and fall seasons. Crystal Creek is considered one of the finest high-alpine wilderness creeks in Wyoming. Jagg Creek Camp is positioned along its namesake water. Both Crystal Creek and Jagg Creek Camps are pack-in sites and approximately 17 miles from the Base Camp.
Business includes all saddles, tents, tack and equipment to operate all three camps.
All three camps have the unique designation as dual-season camps. As soon as the snow melts, these camps can be set up, allowing for spring bear hunting. Summer guests can take full advantage of the incredible Gros Ventre Wilderness with the mountain vistas, abundant wildlife and excellent fishing in both Crystal Creek and the Gros Ventre River. All three camps are in an ideal location to operate summer day rides and pack trips.
As the temperature drops and the leaves change, hunting season continues through the end of October, allowing for almost six months of continuous operations. With quality hunting for the Big Five elk, Mule deer, Shiras moose, bear and Bighorn Sheep, Crystal Creek Outfitters is a top-of-the-line operation.
The United States Congress designated the Gros Ventre Wilderness in 1984, which now totals 317,874 acres. All of the wilderness is within Wyoming and managed by the Forest Service. Cutthroat and brook trout fishing in the river and streams is best during the summer. Year round fishing in the lakes provides ample fun and live water opportunities.
The Gros Ventre Wilderness is located east of Jackson Hole in western Wyoming. The Wilderness lies within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, an area internationally known for its wildlands, wildlife, geological features, scenic beauty and recreational opportunities. The Gros Ventre Wilderness is considered to be an excellent area for hunting, outfitting and backpacking.
The vast majority of the Gros Ventre Wilderness is located in Teton County, Wyoming. The town of Jackson Hole is the county seat for Teton County and is a gateway community for Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park and the millions of acres of public lands that surround the valley. The Jackson Hole airport is a huge asset to Crystal Creek Outfitters. Serviced by five airlines and only a 45-minute drive from the Base Camp, clients from all around the county have multiple travel options.
